Well, it hardly seems like a year since I attended the last AIIM Roadshow but time waits for no one and suddenly I found myself at the latest event on June 21st in London. This year saw a different venue and a free lunch. I can't wait for next year!
These Roadshows are great ways for information professionals, product vendors and the AIIM membership community to get together to explore the latest trends and developments, share information and ideas, listen to some great talks and generally have a good time. As usual, there was a full programme so I had to be quick off the mark to get to the next talk if I didn't want to miss anything.
One if the highlights this time was a visit from AIIM President John Mancini who spoke about Information opportunities in the social, local and mobile era which was based upon his eBook, OccupyIT: A technology manifesto for the cloud, mobile and social era. This is a very informative and thought provoking read and provides a real insight into the future, as we move from the management of records to the management of transactions. It's written in John's inimitable style and backed up by plenty of references to the latest research.
By far the most talked about content management system at the event was MS SharePoint, which was timely as my own organisation makes the transition to this platform. I hope to blog regularly on this topic sharing my successes and, no doubt, frustrations as the project takes shape. One of the advantages of this platform is the sheer number of deployments in many configurations in many organisations, so finding answers to those thorny questions shouldn't be too difficult. Who knows, I may even have a few answers myself. Watch this space!
